Parenting, Moore Style

Even though we are strong advocates of the home schooling movement from a 25 year position of being a ‘two-parent-single-income-Dad-stay-at-home-Mom-home-schooling-eight-children-family’, we also understand the anguish and struggles that every parent goes through when desiring the best for their children. The Moores never sought to become pioneers in the home schooling movement. They were first and foremost professionals known around the world; he for reorganizing colleges and universities and for establishing highly-successful work-study programs; she as a world class curriculum and reading authority; and both as child specialists!  They simply desired to share that child development stages are a major critical element so children could fully comprehend what they were being taught, but only when they were developmentally ready.  As a result, the further the Moores dug into this concept, the more apparent it became that the way a child was being educated had a negative effect on their development instead of a positive one.
 
Through many years of exhaustive study in child development research, and the publishing of a wide range of reports addressing topics such as child cognitive development, the Moores began to experience resistance within the main stream educational system when it came to their findings.  This ultimately led them to advocate home schooling as the better alternative, always for the sake of the child.

Within all of the Moore books, you will find this theme repeated throughout the pages.  They constantly and consistently held to the position that children were being educated in a cookie cutter mindset and, as such, were seldom achieving their full potential upon reaching graduation.  Through a series of books that cover all facets of a child’s learning capabilities, that could also be referred to as child development books, Raymond and Dorothy Moore’s heartbeat has always been for the child.  It is also a fact that they knew full well that, in order to reach the children, they needed to first reach the parents.  This is why all of their books were thoroughly researched before being published; to assure the parents that they were on their side and to offer help with parenting their children to become the best they can be.
